So... Ranboo...
at the time im writing this, this is the mf who i've stolen my websites namesake from (ranboolive) so clearly this guy is of some importance of me. get ready for the infodump of y'alls lives because boy do i have a lot to say about them because boy do they mean a lot to me!!! seriously, i cannot begin to thank him enough for all he's done both for me and so many others.
Who are they?
ranboo is a variety streamer on twitch that occassionally posts on youtube. they got well known because of tiktok as well as their minecraft content (most notably their connection to the dream smp), but they've since taken a step back from the minecraft scene and has still seen a lot of success, especially with their own horror project called generation loss! i think one of the most admirable things about them is how much they've been able to raise for charity and continue to raise to this day! all donations as well as a big part of his ad revenue goes towards different charities each month.
When did you start watching?
like many others, i found him through the dsmp! i was originally very fixated on technoblade and happened to stumble upon them from him. i can't remember if i first watched an animatic that was a collection of ranboo's first moments on the smp or if techno had raided him and i decided to go check him out. i followed on january 3rd 2021, though i know i've been watching him a bit before that (somewhere in late december) because it took me a long time to work up the courage to make a twitch account! i posted my first piece of fanart january 14th 2021 and it all went downhill from there!!! /j
as mentioned previously i found ranboo through the dsmp at the height of the pandemic. as much as its embarrassing to admit now, i can't lie that the dsmp meant the world to me. it was my first real fandom that i ever truly participated in. like sure i had other interests that i occassionally poked my head into their fandoms, but i never really partook in making fanart/being active yknow? i started posting my art to twitter for the first time and met some amazing people in the bootwt community, some of which im still in contact with to this day and i'm very thankful for! it was just incredibly inspiring seeing someone my age being so creative with the stories they wanted to tell and it inspired me a lot, it STILL inspires me a lot especially with his project generation loss. their streams and the community became such important and integral parts of my life, even if twitter can be utterly exhausting sometimes i really wouldn't trade the community for the world. i'm seriously so thankful for the platform i was able to build by creating artwork for a creator i love and the incredible opportunities i got from it, such as being able to participate in my very first zine (infinity: a generation loss fan zine) as well as particles for palestine in which we were able to raise over $50k for palestine children's relief fund.
i wouldn't go as far as to say ranboo saved my life, but they certainly did change it in a major way. they've honestly become my muse atp? as strange as that is to admit. i keep coming back to draw them, i've improved more than ever thanks to continuously making fanart of them for over 3 years now (ive managed to draw fanart at least once a month for 2 years straight!). even though i may take breaks from drawing them, naturally do to burnout/art block, i dont think i'll ever truly stop coming back to him. i think im here for the long haul and im very thankful for that, wouldn't have it any other way.
